This original graphic started as a screen print design, but became more successful with full colorization. The sci-fi aesthetic hits on a target audience that appreciates a more traditional 80’s/90’s comic style. Conceptually, it plays on the feelings of being human, as well as the sublime and the abject. The graphic is currently being manufactured online in several different product types, including shirts, laptop covers, assorted apparel, and journals.
Starting with a photomanipulation as a reference image, I moved from sketching to inking. Then I created a dot halftone pattern to use as the shading.
I tested the graphic out in two-color application, made adjustments for ink trapping, and then created a screen print poster.
