The CHIPS Metrology division at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) tasked me with creating an infographic to better explain the Grand Challenges that they're funding projects to solve. It would be an infographic/flowchart that not only breaks down each Grand Challenge, but also illustrates how each one interacts with the others. Using the original CHIPS blue and red brand colors, I expanded on the palette and then color-coded each Grand Challenge to give it more of a focused identity. The boxes represent a clean UI feel that's easy to follow. You can find the infographic hosted on the NIST website here.
The initial graphic was such a success that I was asked to create more infographics in the same style to illustrate complex concepts surrounding semiconductor manufacturing. For these, I went with more of a circuit board/schematic layout, given the audience. These were also very positively received.
From there, our contract renewal was expanded to include more Grand Challenge infographics. The goal was to create an in-depth infographic for each Grand Challenge. This example is covering the intricacies of Grand Challenge 2.
A color guide was made to fully lay out the palette for each Grand Challenge. I also made sure to create accessible colors for Section 508 compliance.
